In 2017, uniPHARM decided that it was time to explore a modern software development strategy and discontinue further development in RPG. This category is a collection of articles related to this project, from the discovery and exploration stage, to ongoing implementation. Some key points:

• Python was decided as the language for future development.
• Django was decided as the Python web framework for developing the front-end of new programs.
• 5733-OPS is the open source package enabling Python on IBM i, as well as many other utilities usually associated with the Linux world. IBM i now uses the yum package manager (for which IBM hosts their own repository) to install/manage open-source packages
• This category is a sub-category of Programming/Development, which is a top-level category. Thus, this area is related to development modernization as an initiative.
