Programs can run either interactively, or in batch (background). When a job is submitted to batch, it goes into a lineup, or ‘queue’. Usually, ASW jobs go into a queue named QBATCH, which is set up to submit two jobs at a time. There are some jobs that can take a long time to run, and if two are submitted around the same time (say at month end) no other jobs will run until they are complete. In that case users start calling IT to find out why things aren’t working.

We have changed several of these long running jobs to a different job queue, so that they do not block normal production jobs.

First find the name of the program. If it is currently running, you can look at the job log. Key in WRKACTJOB SBS(QBATCH) and press enter. Use option 5 to work with the job, then option 10 to display the job log. Press F10 to display all messages.

In this case, ASTC921 is the name of the program.

If the job is not currently running, but you know the menu and option number, you can look it up in the ASW menu system. For example,

In this case, AACR330 is the program that will prompt, then submit the program that runs in batch. To find the name of that program, run [[Query]] on file SROCTLBP in library UP1480BS. Select records where field CTSPGM is equal to the start up program, or in this example, 'AACR330'.
