If a field on an ASW screen must contain a value from a particular table, pressing F4 will show those values. This can also be used to find out the name of the file that contains them - if, for example, you want to use it in a query. The program that displays these values can be either a specific program for the specific file, or a generic program that can display any file.

Open the prompt window on one session.

Find the last application program. Ones that begin with 'Q', and in library 'QSYS' are system programs. So the last application program is WNDR001. That is the generic program. To see what file it is displaying, you can use SQL.

On a command line in ASW, key in STRSQL and press enter. Copy and paste this statement -

select * from wnownd where wntx50 like 'XXXXX%'

where XXXXX is the heading from the prompt wind, in this case Summary. (Note that the entire heading does not have to be entered - the % is a wild card, for any number of characters.) So the SQL statement is -

select * from wnownd where wntx50 like 'Summary%'
