I do a lot of sysadmin-related stuff with the open-source software in the PASE environment on the i, and it is a solo effort. There is no point announcing these things, since it matters little to anyone. Yet they should be logged, hence this page. -norwizzle (talk)

List of major changes to the PASE environment and open-source on IBM i. This page started late; the retroactive log section below will contain prior milestones.

Changelog

In reverse chronological order.

2018

August

  • Installed nano, python3.6, ibm_db, itoolkit, numpy, pandas using yum.
  • Started cleanup of PASE to migrate from 5733-OPS and perzl RPMs to yum-provided packages.
  • Migrated uwdutils virtual environment to use yum Python (Python 3.6).

July

  • Installed yum. New way of managing open-source software on IBM i.

Retroactive log

In chronological order:

2016

  • December: Installed 5733-OPS with Python3.4, git, chroot, bash, tools (sftp, curl, sqlite3).

2017

  • Installed ibm_db, ibm_db_django from provided .whl packages.
  • Set up and use sftp in the 5733-OPS:tools package for sending Gilead report.
  • Set up git to communicate with Github.
  • Decided against continuing with git on i and using Github. Git will be done through the IDE.
  • Installed many utilities using perzl AIX rpms.
  • Created /uwdsrc as the root for open-source project code.
  • Installed and experimented with Flask and Django.
  • Attempted to use sqlite3. Discovered bug, installed PTFs to fix.

Early 2018

  • Set up Django. Officially started InfoNext Project.
  • Installed gunicorn, set up to run automatically every morning to serve InfoNext.
  • Created static/ in /webroot to group static files for Django with static files for WebSmart sites (Infonet, Web Orders).
  • Attempted to change SSH server to use key authentication. Too many problems related to how IBM i does users and groups, reverted to password auth.
