Steps
Configure basic printer settings
- Unbox, power on, and network the device.
- Access the web GUI, fill out device information (name, location, SNMP).
- Set static IP and other network settings (DNS, gateway etc.). Use an IP within the range for printers (check DNS server or do a network scan). Use Colosoft to scan the network for acceptable IP range. Confirm selection of IP address with nslookup. Leave Netmask and gateway unchanged.
- Give the device a hostname, using the convention (check DNS server for current printer names).
- Register the hostname in DNS (domain controllers, or MMC).
Set device up as a printer on Lucy
- Printers that will be used primarily for IBM i printing (i.e. invoice printers) need to be defined on lucy.unipharm.local, as that is where JetForm is installed). Define a printer share here. Follow the naming convention for the device/printer/share name because IBM i has a 10-character limit.
Set device up as an IBM i network printer
- Follow IBM i instructions for setting up a printer as a device description (IPP/SNMP device i.e. 3812).
