Program IOPMSG01 looks in the IOP files to see how many orders were received in the last hour, for each method, and compares the count to a value in file IOPTIMP for the same month, day of the week, and time. If less, an email is sent to all addresses in the data area(s) MSGREC*.
File IOPTIMP was created based on actual order history. But the program doesn’t compare the actual orders received to the historic average, but to an ‘alert count’; which is always one. So an alert is actually sent if no orders were received at a time when we expected some. So really, it is less a check for low volume, than a check to see if the services are functioning.
FTP Orders Low
Make sure the import job is running by keying in WRKACTJOB and pressing enter. Page down until you see ‘FTP_ORDERS’, in subsystem MONITOR2.

The status ‘MSGW’ (message waiting) is misleading, as in the case of these monitors, it usually isn’t waiting for a message to be answered, but for a message to be received. To make sure the monitor is waiting for a message to be received; not to be answered, use option 7=Display Message. If the response is ‘Display message option not allowed’, the monitor is in the correct state.

If this shows no FTP orders received, the easiest way to check the status of the service is to see if we are receiving transaction files from Atlas. Sign onto the FTP server, go into FTP root / Atlas / Archive, and look at the latest date and time a file was received.
Email Orders Low
Email orders go through three subsystems; IMS, IMP, and IOP. So check the state of each of these. Key in WRKACTJOB press enter, then page down until you see –

This shows four Apache servers – ADMIN (administration), WEBINTER (InfoNet), WEBSMART (web orders), and WEBTEST (development). Make sure none of these jobs is in MSGW, and that there are CGI (Common Gateway Interface) jobs running. These are the jobs that actually perform the users’ requests; which is to run the selected programs. More and more iterations are called up if required to answer all the requests.
