Printing from IBM i

NOTE: This page is a work-in-progress. iSeries printing is a massive topic and the knowledge purveyed throughout the following sections are based on a select few instructive experiences setting up new printers and print servers.

There are two main methods of setting up printers on IBM i. The first uses Remote Out Queues, the second uses Device Descriptions.

Remote out queues (RMTOUTQ)

The name is self-explanatory. Instead of "writing" to a local OUTQ on the IBM i, a file can be sent to a printer set up as a remote OUTQ.
