This page was created to note changes done to the wiki installation on smithers. It should contain any upgrade notes as well. Level 4 headings are used for dates.
Changes
July 14, 2016
- Set $wgMainCacheType = CACHE_ACCEL in LocalSettings.php. Object caching may not have been functioning prior to this. In fact, it may still not be functioning.
- Configured Extension:CategoryTree to display pages on category pages.
- Important: Attempted to upgrade Mediawiki to version 1.27.0 (long-term support release). Extension:IntraACL broke due to deprecation of wfMsg function. Reverted to 1.26.3.
- Edited httpd.conf in an attempt to fix the issue with Apache randomly hanging

- Non-thread-safe PHP requires use FastCGI, will be explored in the future, but reverted back to thread-safe PHP
- Experienced slow-down after reversion (both browsers), exploring Mediawiki maintenance practices.

[Major Change] - Replacing PHP with non-thread-safe version. See this article.Still the same version (5.6.22) and still 64-bit PHP being used (experimental).Installed XCache NTS version to maintain compatibility with new PHP installation.

- Installed XCache for PHP object-caching
- Installed to help with uniKB performance issues (freezing, lagging). Seems to have sped up the wiki significantly. No lags experienced during initial testing.

- Configured WikiEditor (beta) to be default editor.

- Changed Elastisearch to start up automatically.
- Search was down after a server reboot.
- Installed DynamicPageList to test display of categories within a namespace (doesn't work).

- Major reorganization of content
- Working to develop categorization scheme in preparation for company deployment.
- Doing by example: re-categorizing all articles in namespace Information Systems.

- Installed Extension:InputBox with intent to place Create Page input field as a shortcut on department main pages.
- Installed Extension:SemanticForms to explore usability potential of Extension:SemanticMediaWiki

- Color-coded the Accounting/Finance and Information Systems namespaces using these instructions.
- This is experimental and colors were chosen randomly.
- Intended to ease navigation and provide context during this learning phase.
- Added Customer Service and Distribution Centre namespaces.
- These changes are not visible to the public. They were made in advance to establish namespace IDs that need to be used for site customization purposes.
- Set Extension:CategoryTree option to hide prefixes for cleaner appearance.

- [uniKB-DEV] - Installed BlueSpice extension on Zelda to explore better management tools
- Scratched due to dislike of the interface overhaul. Will uninstall eventually.
- Used moveBatch.php to move all current pages into Information Systems namespace
- Restored deleted DFU page from revisions of another page with the same content.
- Performed numerous rebuildall.php and rebuildrecentchanges.php after moveBatch.php

- Created new user Apache Service under Managed Service Account
- Set uniPHARM eLearning service (Apache) on Smithers to run as apacheservice@unipharm.local instead of LocalSystem

- Enabled email notifications in Mediawiki
- Created wikiadmin@unipharm.com in MDaemon to test sending email from the wiki. Currently forwarding to norwinu@unipharm.com for debug purposes.
- Added Extension:SwiftMailer (installed with PHP Composer) to replace stock UserMailer functionality.

- Installed PHP Composer on Smithers to conveniently manage PHP extensions.
- Installed Extension:SemanticMediaWiki using PHP Composer
- Search engine replacement
- Installed Elasticsearch 1.7.5 search engine
- Installed Extension:Elastica - PHP extension to bridge CirrusSearch and the Elasticsearch engine
- Installed Extension:CirrusSearch - replaces stock Mediawiki search
- Upgraded Java runtime environment (required by elasticsearch)
- Set Elasticsearch to run as a service on Smithers

- Attempted to fix broken Extension:MultimediaViewer
- Upgraded Mediawiki from 1.26.2 to 1.26.3 in attempt to fix MMV extension (not yet fixed).
- Upgraded PHP to 5.6.22.
- Set up Mediawiki test environment on zelda using XAMPP (Wiki name: uniKB-DEV)
- Uses MariaDB (New, community-forked version of MySQL)

- Prevent editing by anonymous users (LocalSettings.php). If not logged in, 'Edit' button will not be visible to you.
