Overview

The following information below was sent out to all members of CAPDM (Canadian Association of Pharmacy Distribution Management) of which we are members along with all of the other wholesalers and distributors in Canada. Below you will see information regarding the distribution of AUVI-Q in Canada. If you do not have an account with McKesson but would like to order the product, there is a way to do so listed at the bottom of the email. We had tried to get Mckesson to sell to the other wholesalers so that any pharmacy could get the product via their regular channel. They refused. However, it appears Health Canada mandated that there be a way for any pharmacy to get AUVI-Q, hence the ability to order just this product without having to open a full account.

Message from CAPDM re: AUVI-Q

Health Canada announced a new supply relationship with Kaléo, the makers of Auvi-Q, an alternative epinephrine injector to Pfizer’s Epipen. Health Canada, McKesson Canada, and Kaléo will collaborate to distribute a strategic supply of Auvi-Q to provinces and territories across Canada. McKesson will act as the sole distributor of Auvi-Q. AUVI-Q is being distributed through a single distributor, McKesson, to ensure equitable allocation throughout Canada. Given the new entry status of Auvi-Q, we anticipate that this product will be available for delivery in stores by the end of this week. This product will be available to all pharmacies. In order to meet this requirement, McKesson is expediting the process, for non-McKesson customers, to create an account and enable ordering of the product.

Q&A on Distribution

Q. Why is Health Canada expediting the importation of the Auvi-Q auto injector?

A. Health Canada has stated that the state of Epipen supply is uncertain. Given this uncertainty, and that the back-to-school season is historically a high-demand period, the Minister of Health signed an Interim Order to enable a U.S. product, Auvi-Q, to be brought into Canada.

The Minister signed the Interim Order as an emergency measure, to help minimize the impact of the current shortage on the many Canadians who rely on this important medication.

Further questions on this are best answered by Health Canada.

Q. Will McKesson Canada be the sole distributor of this product? A. McKesson Canada works with manufacturers to distribute healthcare products to Canadians on time and in a safe, accessible manner.

The decision on who distributes products rests with the manufacturer, in this case Kaléo.

Q. Will this product be made available to all pharmacies?

A. Yes.

Q. What is the price of the product?

A. The price of the product is primarily set by the manufacturer, in this case Kaléo.

Further questions on the price should be directed to Kaléo or Health Canada.

Q. When will the product be on the shelves in pharmacies?

A. The product has now entered Canada and McKesson is working diligently to have them in pharmacies at the earliest possible point in time without sacrificing safety or quality. They are working to have the product available in pharmacies by September 7th, 2018.

Q. How do I order Auvi-Q from McKesson?

A. Customers who currently have an account with McKesson should use PharmaClik to place an order.

Q. What if I don’t have an account with McKesson?

A. This product will be available to all pharmacies. To create an account with McKesson Canada, please call the Customer Service Department:

Eastern Canada: 1-866-604-4595 Ontario: 1-888-737-7780 Western Canada :1-866-203-5233 Quebec: 1-800-363-5969

Additionally, McKesson is expediting the process for non-McKesson customers to create an account and order the product. There are three options:

Option One: An expedited “cash on delivery” account, which takes up to 3 or 4 days, and gives the customer access to only Auvi-Q. A credit card is required for payments on these accounts Option Two: An expedited “PAP” account, which takes up to 3 or 4 days, and gives the customer access to only Auvi-Q. A pre-authorized payment (PAP) with a financial institution is required. Option Three: A normal account, which takes up to 10 days, but allows the customer to have access to all McKesson products.

Q. Is there an order limit or cap per pharmacy?

A. Yes. Kaléo has established a daily limit on the number of Auvi-Q units that a pharmacy can order from McKesson Canada to help manage supply in a fair and equitable manner. Of course, supply and demand will be closely monitored

Important Notes

1. Given that they have put order limits in place, we would not be able to use some of our stores who have an account to order product in for us so that we may sell to you as normal. If we can find a way around this, we will let you know. 2. The list price for the AUVI-Q is $367.20 for a 2-pack or $183.60 per unit. 3. Any pharmacy that deals with anyone outside of McKesson would have to go through this process. 4. We are still on an allotment basis of Epi pens from Pfizer and we will keep the current restrictions in place when any stock arrives into the warehouse.
