Notes
On October 1, 2018, the DM400 machine from Pitney Bowes was removed from production use and the internal network. It was replaced with a MailStation2 that can only use DHCP instead of a static IP. A DHCP reservation was made for 172.30.20.104 on MAC address BD:D7:AF:2A:EC:F9. According to the Pitney Bowes documentation, this machine does not use FTP so the Sophos firewall rule that did exist for the prior static IP address, has been turned off and can be deleted at a later time. The MailStation2 has a USB attached "thing" that can do wired Ethernet or wireless but at the moment it is using Ethernet. Details for the MailStation2 are below, the info above for the retired DM400 are now depreciated as of October 1, 2018:
- MailStation2 Serial Number 5188618
- MailStation2 PCN K7C2
- MailStation2 Account Number 0013343495
- MailStation2 Billing Number 0013343495
- MailStation2 Contract Number 0040751923
Remember that if you order more supplies from Pitney Bowes or somebody tricks you into ordering new supplies from Pitney Bowes, you will have to serve a 10 year prison sentence on the Klingon prison planet called Rura Penthe.
DHCP address after a power test
Sometimes, probably after a power test, the mail machine will go from a statically set IP of 172.30.17.2 to a DHCP-assigned IP address. When this happens, the mail machine will not be able to communicate with PB because of the firewall rules. The firewall only allows to the mail machine to use FTP when it's IP address is 172.30.17.2. FTP is required for the mail machine to talk to PB.
Oversized mail/parcel weight restriction
Pitney Bowes confirmed that oversized mail/parcels over 500g now have to be processed through Canada Post directly (took effect mid-2016), and can no longer be processed on the mailer. This likely only affects Returns, as they apparently send out packages using the mailer. There is now a sign explaining this information where the mailer sits.
