Overview

The Fujitsu fi-6670 "Gauss" scanners can be used as normal USB scanners (ISIS or TWAIN drivers) i.e. outside of the usual Kofax/Gauss usage (workflow scanning). For example, Adobe Acrobat could be used to scan to PDF, but is a paid product. Fujitsu PaperStream is the vendor's own software intended for use with their hardware scanners. The free Basic edition of this software is installed on the Accounting scanning station as an alternative to scanning with the Xerox. With regards to usage and administration, it is somewhat of a hybrid between the scanning feature of the Xerox MFCs e.g. Stein, and Kofax Capture. For example, there are scan profiles like the Xerox, but there is also a Batch Manager, similar to Kofax Capture.

This is not intended to be a complex system, but rather, a way of extracting more value from the scanner hardware by making them available for other uses besides scanning into the document management system. However, the scan profiles may be elaborately configured (e.g. scan to network folder with a naming structure based on username) and may require some study for the uninitiated.

Notes

  • The pilot profile is "Scan to Accounting common folder".
