Information Systems:Add Extra Fields to Report Writer File

A problem with ASW Analyser, or Report Writer, reports is that they do not include all the fields we need to describe items and partners.

Item – second description line, size, vendor item number, UPC, and DIN
Partner – alias, address, and postal code.

In order to add extra fields to the output, we have to go outside of the application.

The process for doing this, is to use Analyser (as usual) to create the report, but going into ASW to run it. (Note that this can only be done for one report at a time. Complete the whole process before starting another, and make sure no one else is doing this at the same time.)

Go into ASW / Business Reporting / Work with Reports

‘Print’ report, and fill in required fields (versions, periods, selections)

When you get to this screen, fill in the ‘Work File’ fields as indicated. Library and file name must be as shown, as they will be used during a later process.

After this has completed running, you can use Analyser (PC client) to view the generated report. When you are happy with these results, do not export it to Excel; run the new program instead.

Go into ASW, and get a command line. Key in ‘CALL REPWTR04’, which will take about one minute to run. This will do three things; build a work file of the extra fields wanted, use Query400 to merge this info with the file created by Report Writer, and copy the results into a comma delimited file in ‘Staging’.
