Enabling an RF device to accept 12-digit UPC barcodes
Of the many barcodes decoded by the scanner on the Workabout Pro G2s, only 1 type - UPC/A - undergoes extra processing. Specifically, 1 leading and 1 trailing character are stripped after a scan decode, so that 10 digits instead of the full 12 are entered as input. Needless to say, this barcode trimming only occurs when the scanner recognizes the barcode as UPC/A. Enabling 12-digit scanning thus requires an undo of this setting. On the RF scanner:
- Start --> Control Panel --> Scanners
- Scroll down and expand UPC/A
- Expand Add/Remove Data
- The settings should be:
- Prefix Char:0 (default)
- Suffix Char: <tab> 0x09 (default)
- 'Strip Leading: 0 chars'
- 'Strip Trailing: 0 chars'
- Press OK on the upper right corner to save. The scanner module will reset itself and upon restart (laser becomes active), will reflect the new settings.
